If digital identity is key to the evolution of financial services, then the ownership and control of that identity is a matter for serious discussion and debate. Do we expect governments to step in with an identity, do we hope to co-ordinate private sector initiatives, do we ask the banks to solve the problem for the of us or do we decentralise into a world of “self-sovereign” identity. What are the implications of each of these approaches?
